You can help someone in the identification of risks by simply asking what their concerns are, what keeps them awake at night. The answers will reveal key risks to their business, or their function, or process.
Apple is the most valuable company in the world (based on stock market valuation) at around a trillion dollars, the largest tech company by sales, and one of the top 3 best companies to work for. It has just moved to a new $5 billion headquarters called Apple Park in Cupertino, California that radically changes the way designers will work together. So what could keep the senior management of Apple awake at night
Apple’s Chief Design Officer, Jony Ive was recently interviewed over lunch for the FT Weekend. In it, he says that when you create something that has never existed before, like say, the Apple Watch, then it is inevitable that there are consequences that were not foreseen, some positive and some not so. He says “there is a responsibility to try and predict as many of those consequences as possible and…to try to understand, try to mitigate those that you didn’t predict.” He says that that is what keeps him awake at night.
It would be interesting to see Apple’s risk map…
